Bradley Barcola has signed for Liverpool, and this one feels big.
The French forward completed a long-term move at the AXA Training Centre after passing his medical and finalising the deal, and will wear the No.29 shirt for the Reds.
"It's a great pride to be able to play for Liverpool. I'm very happy," he told Liverpoolfc.com after putting pen to paper. The smile said the rest. This is a player who has pushed hard for the move and knows exactly what he wants from it.
"It took a long time but I'm really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool and all I want is to be on the pitch and be able to play," he added. No talk of settling in, no cautious targets. Straight to the point.
His ambition is just as clear.
"I hope to achieve very big things. First of all, winning the Premier League – it's one of my biggest dreams in my life. It is to do that and to stay in this team in the long term – that's why I signed a long contract – and I hope I can do it."
Liverpool are not buying potential alone here. They are signing a forward already hardened by the demands of the very top.
Barcola arrives from PSG after three seasons in Paris that transformed him from a promising Ligue 1 talent into a serial winner. He played 152 games for the French champions, scored 39 goals and supplied 35 assists. Those are serious numbers for a player still only in the early stages of his career and who can operate anywhere across the front line.
He did it while collecting trophies. At Parc des Princes he lifted back-to-back Champions League titles and three consecutive Ligue 1 crowns, learning to live with pressure where every dropped point is a crisis and every spring brings knockout nights of the highest intensity.
The path to Paris ran through Lyon. It was at Olympique Lyonnais that Barcola first broke into senior football, making his debut in November 2021. In 47 appearances for his boyhood club he registered seven goals and 11 assists, enough to convince PSG to move for him in August 2023.
The step up did not faze him. Nor did the international stage.
Barcola made his debut for France in June 2024 and has already collected 28 caps, scoring six times. Three of those goals came at this summer's World Cup, where he featured in every game of France’s run to a fourth-placed finish. Tournament football, knockout tension, the weight of a nation – he has felt all of it before walking into Anfield.
Liverpool are getting versatility, end product and a player used to competing for the biggest prizes. Barcola is getting the stage he has always wanted and a league he openly calls his dream.
Now comes the hard part: turning that dream of a Premier League title into something the Kop can actually sing about.
