Harry Kane did not just reach 100 Bundesliga goals. He tore up a record that had stood untouched for almost half a century and did it in a 7-0 demolition that underlined Bayern Munich’s ruthless edge.
The England captain hit the milestone in only his 98th league appearance for the club, smashing the mark set by Cologne striker Dieter Müller back in 1977. Müller needed 129 games. Kane has been operating on a different timescale entirely.
Since landing in Munich in 2023, Kane has treated the Bundesliga like his own finishing school. Before this game he was averaging a league goal every 78.5 minutes. Across all competitions he now sits on a scarcely believable 152 goals in 154 matches, with last season’s haul alone reading 61 in 51.
Against Union Berlin, the history books finally caught up with him.
Bayern were already in full control when the breakthrough moment arrived. In the 39th minute, Kane stepped up to the spot and ripped his penalty into the net with the certainty of a man who knew what it meant. Goal No 100 in the Bundesliga. Record gone. Another line in a career already crammed with them.
He was not finished. Early in the second half, Michael Olise – who spent the afternoon tormenting Union – whipped in a cross and Kane met it with a firm header for his 101st league goal. Clinical, simple, inevitable. Bayern were cruising to the top of the table before the rest of the weekend’s fixtures had even kicked off.
On any other day, Olise would have owned the headlines. The winger produced his first Bayern hat-trick, a performance of flair and incision that announced him as another major attacking force in this side. Jamal Musiala added a goal of such quality it could have settled a tight contest on its own.
Instead, they became part of the supporting cast in Kane’s latest landmark show.
Kane himself sounded as relentless as his numbers. He spoke of pride at hitting 100 and 101 Bundesliga goals “without being around that long” and of how much he has “loved every second of it” since arriving in Munich. Surrounded by creators like Olise, Luis Díaz and Musiala, he knows chances will keep coming. His message was simple: thank the team, enjoy the moment, then go again.
Bayern’s No 9 has already bent one historic record to his will. The real question now is how far he can push the numbers – and how many trophies will be stacked alongside them when he is done.
