Manchester United have struck a deal to sign 16-year-old Liverpool midfielder Isaac Konde, in a rare youth transfer between the two rivals that underlines the scale of the rebuild underway in the Old Trafford academy.
Fabrizio Romano reports that United have reached an agreement with Liverpool, with the formalities completed in the last 24 hours. Konde, a regular for Liverpool’s Under-18s this season, has made six appearances in the Under-18 Premier League, registering one assist and catching the eye with his development at Kirkby.

United reshape the pathway
United’s youth ranks have been anything but static. While Konde heads in, several promising youngsters have already gone in search of senior opportunities elsewhere.

United marked Bradbury’s exit with a detailed statement, reflecting the level of care still placed on academy graduates even as they move on. They highlighted his journey from signing at Under-14s level to earning his scholarship in 2025, his five appearances for the Under-18s in the 2024/25 season, and his debut for Adam Lawrence’s side as a late substitute in the FA Youth Cup fourth round.
The club also pointed to his output last season: eight goals in the Under-18 Premier League and contributions at Premier League 2 level. United’s academy recruitment drive has not been flawless. They pushed to bring in Leicester City youngster Louis Page, only to see the move collapse when the two clubs failed to reach an agreement before the deadline. Page remains with the League One side, a reminder that even at youth level, negotiations can be as tense and time-sensitive as any first-team transfer.
So attention turns to those they have managed to secure. Konde’s arrival fits a clear pattern: United targeting technically gifted teenagers from strong development environments, even if it means crossing historic battle lines to do it.
