Paris Saint-Germain head north on Friday night still searching for their first win of the Ligue 1 season, and Luis Enrique is preparing to shake the tree.
A 2-2 draw at home to Rennes in the opening round left more questions than answers for the champions. The response is clear: changes, and plenty of them.
Enrique rings the changes
According to L’Équipe, the Spaniard is ready to alter four pieces of his starting XI for the trip to Lille, a fixture that rarely allows for experimentation. This, though, looks bold rather than tentative.
In defence, the absence of Nuno Mendes continues to cast a shadow over the left flank. He remains sidelined and nowhere near a return. The solution, for now, is experience. Lucas Digne is expected to come in at left-back, pushing Lucas Hernández out of the side and giving PSG a more natural outlet on that side.
On the opposite flank, Enrique is ready to roll the dice. Warren Zaïre-Emery, the teenage midfielder who has already shown he can handle just about anything thrown at him, is set to line up as an unorthodox right-back in place of Achraf Hakimi. It is a daring tweak: one of PSG’s most influential central players tasked with patrolling the touchline and building play from deep.
The reshuffle does not stop there. In midfield, Lucas Beraldo is in line to replace Vitinha. It points to a slightly different balance in the centre of the pitch, with Beraldo offering a different profile as PSG try to control a Lille side that presses aggressively and breaks quickly.
Dembélé rests, Torres rewarded
Up front, one of the headline calls comes on the right wing. Ousmane Dembélé, who has carried a heavy workload, is expected to be rested. Into the spotlight steps Ferran Torres.
The Spaniard has earned it. Coming off the bench against Rennes, he dragged PSG back into the game with two goals to salvage a point. Now he is set for his full debut, a reward for impact and a clear sign that Enrique is willing to back form over reputation.
Torres should join Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in a fluid, technical front line designed to stretch Lille and attack between the lines rather than simply overpower them.
