What looked like a short Bayern chapter for Sacha Boey may yet turn into a longer story.
Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has confirmed that the French full-back is now increasingly likely to stay at the club, after a summer in which the German champions had been prepared to move him on.
The plan was clear. Bayern were ready to offload the 25-year-old in this window, only for a transfer to stall and then disappear as the German market shut. With no deal agreed before the domestic deadline, the situation has flipped.
“The probability is now greater that he'll stay here,” Freund said at a press conference on Friday, drawing a line under weeks of uncertainty.
Boey, who has struggled for continuity since arriving in Munich, has at least impressed internally with his conduct during the speculation. Freund underlined that point.
“He's always behaved in impeccable fashion. The plan was different, but this can happen in football,” he noted, acknowledging that Bayern’s original intentions have been overtaken by the reality of the market.
Now the clock is ticking on the remaining open windows across Europe and beyond. If no late move emerges from leagues where business is still possible, Bayern will keep him.
“When all transfer windows are closed and he's still here, then he'll remain a player in our squad,” Freund stated.
