Worthing have moved to sharpen their promotion push by landing striker Jordan Young from Torquay United for an undisclosed fee.
The 27-year-old arrives with a proven record in National League South. Since joining Torquay from Yeovil Town in October 2024, Young has hit 35 goals in 88 appearances, a return that has made him one of the division’s most dangerous forwards.
Worthing manager Adam Hinshelwood made no attempt to play down the significance of the signing, highlighting not just Young’s finishing but the variety he brings in the final third. He pointed to the forward’s dead-ball quality and his knack for conjuring goals and assists from unlikely positions, traits that should immediately alter the dynamic of Worthing’s attack.
Torquay, meanwhile, have protected their longer-term interests. The club confirmed that the agreement includes a clause ensuring they retain a “significant financial interest” in any future transfer involving Young, a clear nod to the belief that his value has not yet peaked.
For Worthing, it is a statement move. For Torquay, it is a calculated gamble that Young’s next step up the ladder will still pay them back.
