Jannik Sinner is preparing for his return to professional tennis, aiming to compete at the ATP 500 China Open in Beijing. According to Italian media outlet Sportmediaset, the world No. 1 will travel to Beijing later this week to participate in the tournament starting September 30.

Sinner has been sidelined since his Wimbledon victory in July due to a right knee injury. This injury forced him to skip the North American hard-court events, including the US Open, where he was the runner-up in 2025. After more than two months off the tour, he resumed training and is now targeting a comeback at the China Open.

Defending Champion Eyes Title Defense

The China Open holds particular significance for Sinner. He has reached the final in all three of his previous appearances, winning the championship in both 2023 and 2025. Defending his title will be an important goal as he returns to competition.

Rehabilitation and Training Progress

The path back hasn’t been straightforward. Sinner had to withdraw from the US Open due to insufficient recovery of his knee. His team chose a cautious rehab approach rather than rushing him back to play.

He resumed practice in Monte Carlo earlier this month and has steadily increased his training load. Sportmediaset noted last week that his knee's response to training has been positive, reinforcing the plan to make Beijing his comeback event.

Ranking Implications and Upcoming Challenges

The 25-year-old’s return comes with ranking pressure. Missing the North American swing allowed Alexander Zverev to challenge Sinner’s top spot. After Beijing, Sinner will head to the Shanghai Masters, which starts on October 7.

Novak Djokovic Also Joins China Open

The tournament will feature another headline player: Novak Djokovic. The 24-time Grand Slam winner will be competing in Beijing for the first time since 2015. Djokovic has a flawless 29-0 record at this event, having won six titles there.

Following a surprising early exit at the US Open to Mariano Navone, Djokovic is looking to regain momentum during the Asian leg of the season. His presence adds star power to the already strong field in Beijing.
