One of UAE’s most experienced white-ball batters, Asif Khan, has been ruled out of international cricket until late 2026 after accepting a 15‑month period of ineligibility for a doping violation.
The 34-year-old tested positive for a metabolite of mesterolone, a banned substance, in an out-of-competition test conducted on 8 September 2025. That date now marks the start of his suspension, which will run through to 7 December 2026.
There was no appeal, no drawn-out hearing. Asif admitted a breach of Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code – the presence of a prohibited substance in a player’s sample – and accepted the sanction via a Case Resolution Agreement involving the International Cricket Council and the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Consequences
The consequences are immediate and severe.
All of Asif’s individual results from 8 September 2025 up to the start of his provisional suspension on 29 December 2025 have been wiped from the record. Every run, every contribution, gone. Any medals, ranking points, prize money or awards collected in that period are forfeited under the Code.
For UAE, it removes a mainstay of their limited-overs line-up. Since his international debut in 2022, Asif has been a constant presence, earning 38 ODI caps and 56 T20I appearances and becoming one of the side’s most recognisable batters in the associate game.
Now he faces a long stretch away from the international stage, and UAE must plan the next phase of their white-ball journey without him.
