Somerset have secured one of the key pillars of their women’s side, with England all-rounder Dani Gibson signing a new contract that keeps her at the club until the end of the 2028 season.
At 25, Gibson already carries the profile of a senior pro. Across the past two campaigns she has featured eight times for Somerset, scoring 262 runs with a highest score of 77, and offering exactly the kind of presence a developing dressing room leans on.
Her influence stretches far beyond county boundaries. Gibson has broken into the international scene with England, playing six One-Day Internationals and 35 T20 Internationals. Between the formats she has scored 722 runs and taken 21 wickets, underlining her status as a genuine all-round option at the highest level.
For Somerset, that blend of international pedigree and county familiarity makes her renewal a statement.
Head coach Erin Osborne made no attempt to hide the significance of the deal, stressing how valuable Gibson’s return is to the club environment. Any chance to bring her back into the group, Osborne said, is viewed as a clear positive. Gibson, in her eyes, arrives not just with runs and wickets, but with something rarer: a “wealth of knowledge and experience which you just can't buy.”
That matters in Taunton right now. Somerset are building around a notably young core, players still learning the rhythms of professional cricket and the demands of tournament play. Gibson becomes a live template for them – someone who has navigated the step up to England duty and understands what it takes to stay there.
Osborne highlighted exactly that, pointing to the value of simply having Gibson in the same dressing room as the club’s emerging talent. Time spent alongside an established international, absorbing habits and standards as much as technical advice, is framed as “a really good one” for the next wave.
